The "Do Scriptures" Twisted By Gwen Shamblin : An 8 Part Bible Study
By Rev. Rafael D Martinez, Spiritwatch Ministries
We will now start a series of Bible studies focusing on the proof texts that Gwen Shamblin has used to support her erroneous doctrines. One of the things we became aware of in our sharing with ex-Remnant and Weigh Down members is that there are certain verses Shamblin consistently misapplies and twists to support her beliefs which have posed great problems for their personal spiritual development after leaving these authoritarian environments. They have come to be known as the "Do Scriptures", and are used by Shamblin to present her arguments for "doing" what she calls "the Will of God." It is a daily "doing" that for her saves and sanctifies, not faith in the Son of God's sacrifice for our sin.
The Kingdom of God is a reality that is built not upon our works, but the graces of God imparted to us by faith in His promises. It is based upon God's love and not terror. It is founded squarely upon the empty Cross of Jesus Christ, and not upon whatever religious duty we pursue. But that, of course, doesn't stop Remnant's chief expositors of false doctrine from twisting the Word of the Lord to their ends. The abundant life of Jesus Christ is twisted beyond recognition by these systems, and Gwen Shamblin's "restoration" is no different for it is Remnantís cultism that not only deceives the mind but defiles the soul.
An ex-RF person once told us that
There are times, however, when I will .. "hear " Gwen's voice giving one of her illustrations; then I could say that those could be mind-controlling tools that the devil may be using to lure me back.
What this person is referring to is the deeply implanted and twisted interpretations of Scripture and the truth claims Shamblin sets forth in her teaching and there are many people who testify to just how much difficulty they have had in trying to read the Bible without hearing "Gwen's voice" coloring not only what they read but what they think. These Bible studies are offered to help move those impacted by Gwen's teaching to an objective perspective about her false teaching on "doing the will of God."
Christians were never destined to live their lives after what any woman or man dictates would dictate how their lives should be, but were ordained from the foundations of their new life in Jesus to live "by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." Our walk in Christ was meant to be one that heeds only the voice of the Good Shepherd, whose voice we are meant to hear, understand and obey (John 10:1-4):
1 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.
5 Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.
It's our prayer that the voice of the Spirit, the Shepherd Himself, will sound again to you as you look into these Scriptures once more .. Turn off the videotapes, the webcasts and let's open the Bible to see what's real and what isn't! The following links will take you to the 8 original Bible studies done for the City of Refuge support group for ex-RF members which follow a basic 3 point pattern after prayer for the light of God's Spirit (John 14:26)
Gwen's Biblical misinterpretation and its impact drawn from her own teachings (from printed/recorded sources)
Sound Biblical study and interpretation (rightly dividing - 2 Tim2:15) of the verses she distorts
Reviewing the implications of Gwen's false teaching - where she is both right AND tragically very wrong
I simply let the Spirit of God do His work and stay out of His way and don't try to pretend to be Him. My training, experience and education is a great tool but by no means is it the Third Person of the Godhead. It's only what He does with it that makes and difference at all. He dwells in you if you are a believer in Jesus, and it is His teaching ministry that will "guide you into all truth" (John 16:13).
